  USCIS Announces Proposed Changes to the I-601 Process (I-601 Waiver of Grounds of Inadmissibility)

On the morning of January 6, 2012, USCIS announced that it intends to modify the I-601 process allowing spouses and children of U.S. citizens to file the the I-601 Waiver of Grounds of Inadmissibility application in the U.S.  While this is exciting news, it is important to note that the program is NOT in effect and is not expected to go live for some time.  Also, the proposed changes will apply to only certain categories of people and only where the ground of inadmissibility is unlawful presence under INA Section 212(a)(9)(B)(V).  For more information, pleaseclick here.
  I-601 Processing Times - USCIS Guangzhou Field Office

Unofficial reports from the USCIS Field Office in Guangzhou, China state that most I-601 waiver applications undergo an initial review within one to two weeks of receipt and conclude processing within two months.  The office notes that the vast majority of cases receive a Request for Additional Evidence, but the office strives to adjudicate processing within a period of two months.

    Adjustment of Status Applicants:

I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record has changed!  Beginning January 1, 2012, USCIS will only accept Form I-693, version 10/11/11.  USCIS will continue to accept both the 2011 and 2010 until December 31, 2011.
